My opponent and the DFL Party supports this rhetoric. My opponent's views are just as radical as John Thompson's. Like him, she supports the foundation of BLM movement which is based on Marxism.
I on the other hand, will fight for all human rights. Unlike those who attended the Hugo protest on August 15th, 2020, I will not judge and make decisions or assumptions based on the color of a person’s skin.
Exercising your 1st Amendment Right does not look like this.
"The First Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the United States Congress from enacting legislation that would abridge the right of the people to assemble peaceably. The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution makes this prohibition applicable to state governments.
The Supreme Court of the United States has held that the First Amendment protects the right to conduct a peaceful public assembly."
This is Not How You Bring Change and Honor the Life of George Floyd.
"The First Amendment does not provide the right to conduct an assembly at which there is a clear and present danger of riot, disorder, or interference with traffic on public streets, or other immediate threat to public safety or order." https://www.loc.gov/law/help/peaceful-assembly/
This is what it looks like when our Minnesota National Guard arrives to restore peace in our streets of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
I am eternally grateful for those that sign up to be members of the National Guard. They are ready at a moments notice to serve our communities within our state or wherever your country needs you most. Thank you for all the sacrifices you make so we can be safe and secure.
This is what a peaceful protest looks like. Protesters created a disruption without destruction. Their only crime, misdemeanor for breaking curfew. They complied and accepted consequences for breaking curfew. The protesters felt it was worth it because their voices were heard.
To see both sides acknowledge they each have a job to do and can do that job while being respectful to each other is such a beautiful thing.
